10 – Individuality

So we have come to the last chapter of this beautiful book and you must be wondering why there is no manual telling you the types of exercises to do and the types to avoid. The reason is simple.

We are all different and the moment you begin to accept yourself, the faster you will move ahead. After watching my transformation and the transformation of the 40 men and women who have passed through my program, I can tell you that everyone is very different. One of the reasons why most people fail in this journey is because they apply a one size fits all approach. They say, “Remi did this and she lost so much weight,” “Linda did that and it worked.” Don’t you get it? You are not Remi or Linda, you are you! You are living your own life and running your own race not Remi’s or Linda’s.

I remember talking to a client who was eating clean and exercising but was not meeting her goal and she was constantly feeling unwell. After investigating and restrategizing we found that she was intolerant to almost everything on her meal plan even though they were healthy. Listen, it is dangerous to be distracted by other people’s journeys, focus on you so you don’t get into an accident. Some people will lose weight that reflects on the scale from one day of eating salad and some people will not lose weight that reflects on the scale but will drop dress sizes from drinking smoothies for a week. Most of us are usually overwhelmed because instead of focusing on our journey we are focusing on others.

But the most important things to be considered before what you eat or don’t eat are the things I have emphasised in the earlier chapters.

Accept your current situation. Accept that you are fat and not ‘big boned’ because there is no such thing. People have dense bones, their bones are heavy but heavy bones is not the same as fat. You can be as thin as a straw and still be heavy.

Count the cost, accept that sacrifices need to be made, accept that it will be difficult, stop trying to eat your cake and have it. Develop the habit of being self motivated, rely on yourself, by yourself. There will be days when you will look for family and friends to encourage you but they will be too busy taking care of themselves.

Recognise that one of the reasons why you are still fat is not because you are physically weaker than those of us who have lost weight, it is just that we kept going when you stopped. Know this: there will be times when you will look in the mirror and you will be unable to comprehend how that huge hanging tummy can ever shrink, remember then that your success is not determined by the size of your huge stomach but by the size of your will.

Take responsibility for your actions. Don’t blame anything or anyone for where you wound up. If you do not like where your decisions got you, then now is the time to change that. You are not fat because you lost a job, you are fat because you decided to eat after you lost the job. Own your mistakes, learn from them. Remember all the food you love will still be in existence when you reach your goal.

If you take nothing else from this book, please take this.

Everyone, EVERYONE is capable of change, no matter how bad

it seems and the only thing standing in the way of your progress is you.

So here is your final homework:
