HOW I LOST 40KG THE JOURNEY THAT CHANGED MY LIFE by REMI OWADOKUN

Acknowledgment

Losing weight has been the most rewarding journey I have ever embarked on in my life and there are a number of people whose contributions made a major difference.

To a brave person who showed up in season, thank you for telling me I was fat, getting me a skipping rope and encouraging me to keep going even when I thought I could not. Tayo, thank you for your blog that I stumbled upon two years ago, though I didn’t do anything about it then, it sowed a seed in my heart. “If she can do it, I can do it too.” Your story inspired me.

Nate…How on earth did you lose 75kg? That is the weight of a whole human being! Your story inspires me and I replaced Jennifer Hudson’s photo on my vision board with yours, you are amazing.

My Mentor, Steve Harris, thank you for writing your book, From College Drop-out to Corporate Sell-out. Every time I told myself that I could not lose weight because I could not afford a gym or a personal trainer, I remember the quote, “It is not what you don’t have that limits you, it is what you have but don’t know

how to use.” You have become a friend, a father and a mentor and your presence in my life is priceless. Thank you.

Marli, my mother and my number one fan, words will never be enough to thank you for all that you are. Your strength, your courage, your friendship! I am such a lucky girl. Love you to the moon and back.

Akinyele, Babajide and Mariza, my brothers and my aunt, your unwavering support and belief in me is a gift I will treasure always. Thank you.

Pascal, my late father. I still feel your presence watching over me. Continue to rest in perfect peace. I am grateful to the Universe for always conspiring in my favour.

Everyone struggles with some insecurity about their body or the other. And while most of us have struggled with our weight at one time or the other, we sadly, live in denial about our struggles. Not Remi.

In her amazing “tell it like it is” book, ‘How I lost 40kg’, she’s amazingly transparent and honest about her struggles; from determining the reason she started to gain weight to being in denial about being obese and her “boots to asses” approach to taking off the pounds.

Reading this book, you’ll laugh, cry and with Remi’s tough love (she’ll most likely start off as your enemy, evolve into being your frenemy and eventually end up as your dearest friend), you’ll be inspired to “lay aside every weight that so easily besets you”. I’m constantly amazed to see Remi push the envelope and each time we communicate, she’s moving faster and farther with each passing day. Look out Jillian Michaels, Remi’s bringing the Total Makeover to take over! I’m blessed and honored to know you dear. You’re truly your Father’s daughter. Chase Your Greatness.
